There is always this typical anecdote among parents. The kid wants a toy really bad. Mum (or dad) says she doesn’t have any money, and even shows the kid their empty wallet. Noncholantly, the kid says, “Just get it from the ATM.”
Kids don’t always grasp the concept of money, and who could blame them? If more adults have a better grasp of money, we wouldn’t be facing the Global Financial Crisis or the European sovereign debt risis.
That is why, Money as you grow is such a great resource for parents. It breaks down concepts for the appropriate age groups, such as
- Wants vs. Needs for 3-5 year olds;
- Taxes for 14-18 year olds; and
- Investment risks for 18 year olds.
For the adults who want to know more about the economy, may I suggest podcasts such as Planet Money.
